China and Italy. Two cultures that share a long and renowned history of making. This timepiece is a celebration of their excellence in artisanship. Wàigōng is the Mandarin word for grandfather on the mother’s side. This timepiece takes the proportions of a grandfather clock but re-dimensions them for a wall or table application. The red painted body and gold plated hands and pendulum are the traditional Chinese colours. The minimal form speaks to Italian/European design world of the mid-century. Though the name is derived from Mandarin Pinyin, it uses Italian spelling and phonetics to reflect the union of the two cultures.
